Resize Image

Resize a photo or picture to the exact size you need, online and free. Type a width and height in pixels, centimetres, millimetres or inches, or pick a template for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, X or a passport photo. Choose how the image fits the new size: keep all of it, crop it to fill the frame, or add a border. If a website limits the file size, set a maximum in KB as well. TypeorDrop shows the original and the new size side by side before you download. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, HEIF, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF images up to 15 MB are supported.

How to use Resize Image

  1. Choose your image: Drag and drop a photo onto the page, or tap to browse. JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, HEIF, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF all work.
  2. Set the size: Type a width and height, or pick a template. Keep the aspect ratio locked to change one side and let the other follow, then choose Fit inside, Crop to fill or Pad.
  3. Resize and download: Click Resize. You see the old and new dimensions and file sizes, then download the result as JPG, PNG or WebP.

FAQ

What is the difference between Fit inside, Crop to fill and Pad?

Fit inside scales the image until it fits in the width and height you typed, so nothing is cut off; one side can come out shorter than you asked. Crop to fill makes the image exactly the size you typed and trims what doesn't fit, keeping the centre. Pad also makes it exactly that size, but adds white or transparent bands at the sides instead of cropping.

How do I resize an image in cm or inches?

Choose cm, mm or in next to the size fields and enter the print size and the DPI (300 is standard for prints). The tool shows the pixel size, for example 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI = 413 × 531 px, and saves the DPI in JPG and PNG files.

Can I make an image bigger?

Yes, up to twice its original width and height. Enlarging can't add detail, so the result looks softer, and the result screen tells you when this happened. If you ask for more than 2×, the image is enlarged to the 2× limit instead.

Can I also make the file smaller in KB?

Yes. Pick a maximum file size along with the new dimensions. If that size can't be reached at those dimensions, you get the smallest file we could make and a message saying so. To reach a file size at any dimensions, use Compress Image, which also reduces the width and height when needed.

Which formats can I use?

You can upload JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, HEIF, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF images up to 15 MB and 50 megapixels. The result is saved as JPG, PNG or WebP. By default it keeps the original format; HEIC, HEIF and AVIF photos become JPG, and GIF, BMP and TIFF become PNG. Only the first frame of an animated GIF is used.

Are the passport photo templates official?

They set the photo size only, such as 35 × 45 mm or 2 × 2 inches. Countries also have rules for background colour, head size and expression, so check your country's requirements before you print or upload the photo.

Is it free?

Yes. You can use up to 2 tools a day without an account, and 10 a day with a free account. Pro removes the daily limit (fair use) and ads for $4 per month or $38.40 per year.

Are my images safe?

Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection and processed on our servers. Uploaded files are deleted automatically after about 24 hours, and results after 7 days. We don't share your files with anyone.
